Things to do in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Medjugorje - pray to statue of the Queen of Peace at Apparition Hill
Catholicism is a part of life in Bosnia and Herzegovina with churches and religious sites all across the country and two of the more important sites can be found just outside Medjugorje. Apparition Hill or Podbrdo as it is locally known is the site where it is said the Virgin Mary appeared and towards the top there is a statue of her where many come to pray. Nearby Cross Mountain, so named because of the large cross on its summit that can be seen for miles, is also a place of religious importance with many petitioners walking up it to say their penance.
Sarajevo - see a great view of the city from the Avaz Twist Tower
A stunning piece of modern design the Avaz Twist Tower as its name suggests twists as it rises into the sky. The tallest building in Sarajevo it is home to Avaz, one of the countries larger newspaper companies. Completed in 2008 the tower is 172m tall and offers great views of the city both from the cafe and restaurant situated near the top of the tower as well as from the elevators that go up on the outside of the building.
Introduction to Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of the states that was created out of the former Yugoslavia. It is one of the fastest growing tourist nations in the world, in fact within the next 10 years, the tourism growth rate in Bosnia and Herzegovina is expected to be the third highest in the world. Hotels in Bosnia and Herzegovina are centred in the capital city of Sarajevo and the Green City precinct that is known locally as Banja Luka. Bosnia and Herzegovina hotels in Banja Luka are particularly modern outfits since this very new urban development has only been under construction this century. Bosnia and Herzegovina hotels that offer viewes of the Una River waterfalls are very atmospheric, beautiful establishments that are in justifiably big demand at all times of the year. Advance bookings are usually required in these hotels but in Sarajevo and other parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina walk in customers usually have no trouble finding a room.
