Things to do in Namibia
Caprivi - paddle the Zambezi River
The Zambezi River has a number of beautiful locations along its 2,200 miles, the most famous of these being the Victoria Falls. But the rapids on the river around the area of Katima Mulilo, also provide spectacular scenes, and show the power of water. The Zambezi Bridge with its 19 arches is also located here and offers great opportunities to look over the rapids. There are also opportunities to do houseboat safaris, whichare fun, scenic and enjoyable.
Karas - hiking at the Fish River Canyon
The world’s second largest canyon is located in Namibia, it is known locally as Fish River Canyon. Around 100 miles long, and in places 17 miles wide and 500 metres deep it offers some spectacular viewing opportunities. The river runs through the canyon intermittingly, leaving small pools during the dry winter season. There are some great hiking trails here, but they require sleeping outdoors, if you do the 3 or 5 day guided trips.
Khomas - explore the German Fort
The German fort in the Khomas region of Namibia is located on a small hill. It overlooks the country’s capital city of Windhoek. The Alte Feste Fort as it is known was started in 1890 and is rectangular in design with the original walls and towers still standing. The fort is home to the National Museum, which has on display, some of the native materials, used over the last 100 years by the San People.
Kunene - experience the Epupa Falls
Situated on the boarder between Namibia and Angola, on the Kunene River, is where the Epupa Falls are sited. They are one of the most popular tourist sites in the country. Only accessible by 4WD vehicles the remoteness of the falls is part of the attraction, as there is little else here except for trees and water sculptured rocks. There are over 1.5km of falls cascading down rocks, creating large areas of foam which gives the region its name.
