Rajasthan, Bundi Intro.
Bundi, Rajasthan, in northwestern India, is awash in ornate palaces, forts and reservoirs. Top among its attractions are the particularly impressive Taragarh Fort, built in 1354 atop a perfectly placed hill overlooking the town. Its massive Bhim Burj battlement dates from the 1500s. This is a fine example of the engineering methods of medieval India. Bundi Palace, commandingly perched on a hill near Taragarh Fort, has terrific murals and frescoes, plus a fine picture gallery. The fort boasts the intricately carved Raniji ki Baori step-wells leading down to a manmade lake where there is a partly submerged temple dedicated to Varuna, the god of water. The Nagar Sagar twin step-wells divide Bundi town. In the surrounding countryside, one top attraction for sightseers is pretty Jait Sagar Lake. The 84-pillared cenotaph of Chaurasi Khambon ki Chhatri is also worth a look. No matter what's on your agenda, recharging your batteries in Bundi hotels will help put you in better shape for exploring this impressive area.
