Teruel, Alcaniz intro.
The municipality of Alcaniz, Spain, is located on the Guadalope River's banks, 149kms from Teruel, the capital of its province, and 105kms from Zaragoza, the capital of the Spanish autonomous community of Aragon. This city has been constantly settled since Spain's Islamic era. Many Alcaniz hotels are located in historic buildings and are known as paradors. The biggest of these paradors is the Castle of Calatrava, situated on the Pui Pinos hills, and many other historic Alcaniz buildings were connected to each other by hidden underground passageways, many of which visitors can still walk through today. Some of the buildings once linked by these underground passageways include the town hall, constructed between the years 1565 and 1570, the Gothic Lonja market, and the Santa Maria la Mayor church. The municipal archives and library are situated inside a 16th century Aragonese palace, while a smaller house from the era boasts a museum of ethnology. A few medieval towers from the old city still stand here today.
