Riyadh, Al Nahda intro. Al Nahda is a small district in the north of Riyadh, located between the city centre and King Khalid International Airport. It is located close to the main route to the airport, meaning that arriving passengers can reach Al Nahda hotels in just 20 minutes. To get here from the airport, travellers should take Route 500, turning off at exit 8 in order to reach the neighbourhood. It is a further 20 to 25 minutes to the city centre, where most of the restaurants, shopping centres and historical attractions can all be found. One of the many compounds which are used to house Western expats is located in Al Nahda. This means that the district's accommodation could be useful for those visiting friends or family who are staying here. Nightlife in Riyadh is fairly non-existent and alcohol is forbidden, but visitors can sometimes find a party of some kind taking place at one of the foreign residences. Although the Saudi religious police often visit such areas, foreign residents do not come under the same scrutiny as Saudi locals.
