Damascus, Mezzeh intro. Mezzeh is one of the newest neighbourhoods in the Syrian capital, Damascus. Located on the southwest outskirts of the city, the district has somewhat of an international feel, with a number of embassies located nearby. As such, it is also considered one of the most expensive districts in the city. Staying in Mezzeh hotels is a good option for returning visitors who are looking for a quiet base for their visit. The neighbourhood overlooks the historic city centre, with many of the rooms here offering excellent views. The Syrian national stadium, Al Jamaa, is located nearby - convenient for those attending a sporting event in the city. Furthermore, the city's most well-known historical attractions are just three miles away, in Damascus city centre. Most travellers get here by flying to Damascus International Airport, around 18 miles away. Travellers coming from the airport to Mezzeh have the added advantage of being able to bypass the city's traffic-clogged streets.
