Werribee, City Centre intro. Werribee is a southwestern suburb of Melbourne, on route to Geelong, the second largest city in the Victoria district. The city centre is a busy commercial area with many restaurants, boutiques, and a covered shopping mall. A major attraction for travellers staying in Werribee city centre hotels is just to the south at Werribee Park. Within the park, visitors will find the Open Range Zoo, the late 19th century Park Mansion with its lavish formal gardens, and the thousands of roses found in the State Rose Gardens. The Werribee River runs through the town, winding its way to the coast past towering cliffs. At the mouth of the river is South Beach, with several jetties and pretty stretches of sandy beach. Just outside of town is Point Cook, where tourists will enjoy the RAAF aviation museum and Point Cook Coastal Park. These swamps and lakes are home to a wide variety of birdlife. A magnificent bluestone house sits within the park, built in 1857, offering tours of the grounds, nightly ghost walks and a nice restaurant.
