Batemans Bay, City Centre intro. Batemans Bay, Australia, is the name of both a bay in southern New South Wales and the town which sits on its banks where the Clyde River meets the Tasman Sea. As the nearest seaside community to Australia's inland national capital, Canberra, 151kms to its west, Batemans Bay receives quite a few tourists from both that city and Sydney, 280kms north along the Princes Highway. Not surprisingly, Batemans Bay City Centre hotels are at their busiest during Christmas, Easter, and other long Australian holiday weekends. The amount of people in the town increases by a third during these bustling holiday times, but visitors are welcome all year long. Fishing, Clyde River cruises, relaxing on the dozens of uncrowded local beaches, and hiking through the surrounding unspoiled bush are the most popular attractions here. Visitors may also golf the Catalina Country Club's 27 holes or simply admire the surrounding scenery from the Folder's Hill, Holmes Rotary, Big Bit, Observation Head, and Round Hill Fire lookouts.
