Buenos Aires, Retiro intro. Located in the north of Buenos Aires city centre, Retiro is best-known for hosting the capital's main train station. Long-distance services arrive here from north of Argentina, from where passengers can easily connect to the city's subway network (Line C). Next door, a large bus terminal offers long-distance buses to destinations across the country. Many Retiro hotels are among the most luxurious in the city and are popular with business travellers heading to the Catalina Norte office park. Tourists will be more interested in seeing the imposing Plaza San Martin however, which faces the station and is dominated by the Torre Monumental. Visitors can climb this tower to enjoy views of Retiro and the nearby port area. On another side of the square, the Paz Palace is worth a visit. This building is home to the Military Officers' Association, which offers regular guided tours of the building. The National Museum of Armaments, featuring weapons and armoury dating back as far as the 1100s, is also situated on site.
