Port of Spain, Queens Park Savannah intro. Queens Park Savannah is the biggest park in Trinidad's capital, Port of Spain. The park is around three kilometres from the city centre and one kilometre north of Macqueripe Beach. There are lots of Queens Park Savannah hotels in the immediate environs of the park, with some offering great views of it and the architectural gems it contains. The stand of the defunct racing track in the park is now the main venue for the parades and celebrations that herald the annual city carnival before Ash Wednesday. On the north side of the park are the city zoo and the Royal Botanic Gardens and on the opposite perimeter, the National Museum and Gallery. The museum houses vast collections of artworks, natural exhibits and carnival related relics. The park itself is spacious and perfect for strolls or early morning jogs. It has designated areas for cricket, football, other sports and picnics. Vendors here offer local delicacies, snow cones, beverages and souvenirs.
