Agra intro. Agra is one of the most famous cities in India for being home to the breathtaking Taj Mahal. A UNESCO World Heritage site, the Taj Mahal must be seen for a visit to India to be complete. This almost magical mausoleum was constructed by a Mughal emperor to commemorate his wife. Other must-see attractions include the Agra Fort and the Fatehpur Sikri, all built during the Mughal Empire of the 16th century. As the city is one of the most popular tourist sites in India, Agra hotels offer great value for money and are mostly located just a stone's throw from the Taj Mahal. The city is home to some of the most breathtaking gardens, some dating back to the Mughals, such as Ram Bagh and Swami Bagh. Other attractions in the city include various temples and tombs, the most popular being the Kailash Temple and the Balkeshwar Temple. There are plenty of sights outside the city as well, a favourite being the beautiful Akbar's Tomb, within Sikandra. Author:
