Toyama intro. Toyama has an abundance of natural beauty, with one of the highest mountain ranges of Japan situated nearby. The region is about three hours by rail from Tokyo, and a similar distance from Osaka. Hotels in Toyama range from mountain inns to the seaside resorts of Tayoma Bay. This is one of the richest fishing areas of Japan, so visitors can expect fresh seafood to feature regularly on restaurant menus here. The area has a dramatic backdrop of mountains that have peaks of up to 3,000ft. The magnificent panoramic views of the mountains can be enjoyed from the capital city. In contrast, the port offers views out to sea. Additionally, the prefecture capital has some great attractions such as Family Park and various museums such as the Museum of Modern Art. Keen gardeners will enjoy the fine selection of flora on show at the city’s Botanic Gardens while history buffs will get a lot out of a trip to the local castle.
