Winthrop intro.Winthrop is an oceanside town at the northern entrance to Boston Harbour. Travellers can get here by taking the subway (MBTA Blue Line) to Orient Heights and then completing the journey by bus. The town is noted for its proximity to Logan International Airport, meaning that Winthrop hotels are useful for visitors with early flight departures. However, there are a few places of interest which might entertain visitors on a more extended stay. One such place, Deane Winthrop House, is one of the oldest wooden-framed houses in the USA. In addition, no house in the USA has been continuously lived in longer than this one. Visitors who intend to visit the house should make an appointment well in advance. The house hosts the Strawberry Festival each June, just one of several annual events in the town. Outdoor types might like to head out to the Deer Island peninsula. Much of the island is covered by a water treatment plant, but other areas are open for activities such as jogging, picnicking and fishing.
