Hood River intro. Hood River, Oregon, only has a population of around 6,000 people, but that number is swelled by the arrival of many tourists each year. It is famous for its windsurfing and many guests at Hood River hotels come specifically for this activity. It has also been known to host international competitions, so accommodations could be crowded at these times. One yearly competition is the Gorge Games, where athletes compete in 10 different sports. However, sports aren't the only outdoor attractions, the beautiful area around Mount Hood has plenty of hiking trails. The district is also historically important and historians should look out for the Columbia Gorge Hotel. The precinct is well-connected by road, the Columbia River Highway (I-84) runs along the river. Route 30 (Cascade Avenue/Oak Street) runs through the city and most the lodgings are located here. However, another group of the buildings can be found near the junction of I-84 and Cascade Street on the western outskirts.
