Banbridge intro. This ancient coach stop along the road from Dublin to Belfast has always been an important transportation centre. Banbridge's downtown core is dominated by the unique underpass known as the Cut, which was built centuries ago for horse carts to pass through the town since the hill was too steep to climb. The town itself has little to offer the casual tourist though it offers a realistic glimpse into working-class life in Northern Ireland. There are a handful of hotels in Banbridge for those who want a place to stay while exploring nearby ancient attractions such as Lisnagade Fort, Legannany Dolmen and Loughbrickland Crannog. These three Neolithic sites are impressive and well worth a visit to see how the Celts lived as far back as 500 AD. The usual roster of restaurants, pubs and practical stores will be found in Banbridge. As it is on the main A1 motorway, drivers will have an easy time reaching the town.
