Bayonne intro. Along the banks of the Adour River is Bayonne. The city is located within a short drive of the Spanish border and Basque Country. The city is split equally on both sides of the river and therefore has no less than five bridges linking the two sides. Hotels in Bayonne are generally situated near to the river banks and give a fantastic view of both the city and the river itself. St Marie’s Cathedral and the Basque Museum are two of the finest Gothic buildings in the city and also the ones that draw the most attention. The city is well known for its bull fighting and from July through September hotels in Bayonne become busy with spectators. The nearer the hotel in Bayonne is towards the Adour River, the more luxurious and extravagant. Restaurants in the city have a strong Spanish influence, with cured hams and peppers being common dishes.
