Khasab hotels map
Khasab intro. The city of Khasab sits at the gateway to the Musandam peninsula in an exclave of Oman. This Portuguese-built city, which has been called the 'Norway of Arabia', was chosen for its natural protective harbour to act as a supply point for ships sailing through the Strait of Hormuz. Explore the khors of the strait and see its dolphins aboard a traditional sailing dhow. Nearby in the village of Tawi, tourists can see prehistoric rock drawings of animals, boats and warriors. Khasab is only accessible by a coastal road through the United Arab Emirates, which has made it a popular weekend getaway for those living in the neighbouring country. Local pottery, precious silver and imported Iranian goods are available in the shopping district near Khasab hotels, while dates and fresh fish are plentiful in town. The old fort has a commanding presence at the end of the harbour, with its three cannons pointing towards the sea, and contains a fort museum featuring antique Omani handicrafts.
