Bahala hotels map
Bahala intro. Located in the northern Ad Dakhiliyah Region, the town of Bahala (Bahla) is home to the oldest fort in Oman. Bahla Fort is a UNESCO World Heritage site built out of adobe and sandstone during pre-Islamic times in the middle of a desert oasis. The sand-coloured structure is one of the four fortresses situated in the foothills of the Djebel Akhdar highlands. Close by is the exquisite 14th century Friday Mosque, set in the midst of a lush palm grove. From Bahala hotels, it is easy to reach the Castle of Jabreen, a massive three-storey fort built in the mid-17th century during the Al Ya'ruba Dynasty. The castle ceilings are beautifully painted and decorated with wooden inscriptions that are exemplary of classic Islamic architecture. The town souk is a buzzing marketplace filled with local culinary treats and handmade treasures crafted by weavers, metal workers and potters. Bahala is known for its pottery, which tourists from around the world come to collect and take home as a special Omani souvenir.
