Mhamid hotels map
Mhamid intro. Mhamid is a desert village on the edge of the Sahara Desert in Morocco. The village itself is very small and there is little to see aside from its mosque, which is closed to non-Muslims. The real draw is the Erg Chigaga dunes, which can be found 60kms away from Mhamid in the desert. The dunes are incredibly impressive. They are classically shaped and some reach 150 metres high. To get to dunes, it is possible to take a camel trek or go by a specially adapted vehicle on a tour. It is also possible to hire a quad bike or a buggy to get to the dunes. Camping equipment is available to hire. There are desert camps at the dunes so it's possible to spend a few days there. The village has a good selection of Mhamid hotels and there are plenty of places to eat authentic Moroccan food, including couscous (semolina) and tajine (stew).
