Alicedale intro. The small town of Alicedale is set about 100kms inland from the coastal city of Port Elizabeth and for many years served as a major junction for South African rail services. Although this role has ended, this scenic village in the Bushmans River Canyon is now quickly coming back into the public eye thanks to major residential developments. The small community here proves a favourite spot for many unsuspecting travellers due to its rich history and the genuine hospitality found in Alicedale hotels. Many visitors opt to take a trip on the old fashioned railroad from Alicedale Station, which offers a glimpse of the past and is set just west of the village. There's also a homemade craft market which is open every Saturday and features locally themed items perfect for taking home as unique souvenirs. The renowned Gary Player golf course which is set outside of town in 'Sun City' is a destination of its own for avid golfers. It boasts 18 well-kept holes designed by 'the Black Knight' himself, set among scenic rolling hills and oak trees for a one-of-a-kind experience.
