Hamilton intro. Hamilton is one of Queensland’s Whitsunday Islands and is a popular tourist destination, especially as there are plenty of activities to take part in here such as kayaking at Lake Hamilton. As the island is located at the edge of the famous Great Barrier Reef, there is a wealth of Hamilton hotels to cater for the many tourists who stay here. Popular activities include trekking at Passage Peak, sailing trips around the Whitsunday Islands and snorkelling trips to the Great Barrier Reef. The island is also known for its nearby golf course on Dent Island, accessible by a five minute ferry journey. The island has idyllic beaches, the most famous of which is Whitehaven Beach. The beaches here are devoid of reefs, which are only accessible by boat. It is possible to take scenic flights over the Whitsundays as well as the Great Barrier Reef from the island. Another great way to take in the island is to kayak from beach to beach.
