Lake Macquarie intro. The city of Lake Macquarie is located in New South Wales, Australia. This local government area is home to nearly 200,000 residents. The city is made up of many towns and villages, each of which has its own particular attractions and activities. Many guests staying at Lake Macquarie hotels are surfers keen on visiting the area's excellent surfing beaches such as Catherine Hill Bay, Redhead and Caves Beach. These three beaches are located in Swansea, the biggest town in the area. There are some wonderful cycle paths in Swansea, while anglers often head to the Swansea Bridge for the best fishing. Swansea is also one of Lake Macquarie's large retail centres, along with other towns such as Cardiff, Glendale and Charlestown. Charlestown Square is considered to be one of the finest shopping centres in New South Wales. The centre covers three floors, hosts at least 170 retail outlets and welcomes visitors to its modern eight-screen cinema complex. Alternatively, visitors arriving at Cardiff Railway Station can connect to Stockland Glendale by taking bus route 363. Glendale Shopping Centre rivals Charlestown Square in terms of facilities.
