Mission Beach intro. Mission Beach is one of the closest mainland areas to the Great Barrier Reef, located along the Coral Sea in Queensland. Many tourists stay here to take advantage of the incredible array of snorkelling and scuba diving in the region, but Mission Beach is a wonderful place to holiday no matter what your interests are. Four beaches are strung together to collectively make up the town. There are some wonderful seaside hotels in Mission Beach available, as well as plush accommodation just inland. Daytrips to Dunk and Bedarra Islands, two of the most popular excursions in the area, can be arranged by most tour operators. Inland lies an incredible swath of old growth rainforest protected by the Wet Tropics National Park. Other recreation options include whitewater rafting, crocodile spotting and sailing. The area has developed a reputation for thrill seekers as well as eco-conscious travellers. Whether you want to go tandem skydiving or hug a cassowary, Mission Beach has got what you want.
