Yass intro. The New South Wales town of Yass is located in the centre of the Yass Valley and offers easy access to tourist attractions in the surrounding areas. Travellers can reach Yass hotels by taking a train from Sydney or Melbourne, courtesy of Countrylink. However, most people visit the town on a trip from Canberra, just 50 minutes away by car. This picturesque town mostly appeals to historians and photographers. Cooma Cottage is the town's main attraction, just five minutes' drive from the town centre. Built in the 1830s, the cottage features a number of architectural styles and includes an adjoining stables building. It was once home to famous Australian explorer Hamilton Hume. Nowadays, it houses a museum dedicated to the life of this great man. Otherwise, most people spend their time enjoying the architecture on the historic main street. Most of the old pubs from the 1800s have been converted, but some are still open.
