Taree intro. Taree is a sleepy river town situated on the banks of the Manning River, 320kms north of Sydney. Taree is a delightful town boasting wonderful waterfalls, a beautiful national park, and some great hills and beaches. The town has a few good Taree hotels, self-contained cottages are one of the more popular choices for hotels in Taree as it is a rural retreat for many of its visitors, but there is a selection of motels and hotels in Taree too. The main town has the usual range of shops visitors would expect in a rural town, with all necessities provided for at the town's shopping complex. The great outdoors is the main highlight of a visit to Taree and can be fully explored at the Crowdy Bay National Park. Visitors can see many varieties of birdlife, kangaroos, koalas and many swamp and sand dune habitats. Also worth a visit are the Ellensborough Falls; one of the highest waterfalls in the southern hemisphere.
