Things to do in Paraguay
Asuncion - see the National Pantheon of the Heroes
No part of Paraguay has seen more celebrations than the National Pantheon of the Heroes in Asuncion. It is here that everyone comes to when major announcements are made. The building took 72 years to complete and was originally planned to be a simple chapel. There are plaques all around the interior of the building from former enemies as well as the tomb of the Unknown Soldier. There is also a ceremonial changing of the guard that is worth seeing, and occurs several times a day.
Asuncion - wander around the Calle Palma
The Calle Palma or city centre of Asuncion has undergone a major renovation since the early 1990’s, with many buildings being restored to their former glory, as well as a number of high end shops opening up. This is a great place to wander around during the day time and see the different architectural styles that have changed over the years. Look out for great shopping bargains and take time out to try some of the local culinary delights.
Introduction of Paraguay
Paraguay is a wonderful country to visit and as yet relatively quiet on the tourist trail. It is a country full of contrasts from very poor to extremely rich, from beautiful natural reserves to large man made dams, from run down shacks to opulent housing; you will see it all in the area. There are a great range of hotels in Paraguay to choose, from luxury to simple country homestays. Stay in one of the lovely accommodations in the colonial city of Asuncion or choose to stay in the establishments in a rural village like Encarnacion. Experience the European influence of towns like Filadelfia or enjoy a hike through sub tropical rainforest or head up to northern the area to visit the dry and arid countryside. There is so much to see and do in the fascinating country; you will want to return again and again.
