Things to do in Bahamas
Freeport - go snorkelling around the beautiful shallow reefs
The waters around the Bahamas and in particular around the town of Freeport are crystal clear and offer an excellent opportunity to snorkel over the shallow coral reefs and marvel at the myriad of colours of both fish and corals. For very lucky snorkelers there is occasionally the opportunity to see wild dolphins cavorting in the area. There are a number of different companies offering trips so make sure you choose one that meets your needs.
Freeport - visit the flora and fauna at the Groves
The Garden of the Groves winds its way through the local countryside at Freeport and offers the opportunity to see the natural beauty of the Bahamas. Within the garden there are waterfalls, colourful tropical plants and beautiful exotic birds. Tours are available at 11am and 2pm for the general public and these are recommended as the gardens can be busy at times, epecially if a cruise ship is in port.
Nassau - swim with the dolphins on Blue Lagoon Island
If you love to meet wildlife up close take the opportunity to travel to Blue Island Lagoon just outside Nassau and participate in the dolphin or sea lion experiences. Stand waist deep in water and stroke, feed or even cuddle these amazing animals. Blue Island Lagoon is one of the few places in the world that do both dolphin and sea lion experiences and some of the scenes of the film “Flipper” staring Ben Hogan were shot here.
Paradise Island - try your luck at a casino
The Bahamas have a reputation for offering some of the best gambling establishments in the world, with their sumptuous playing rooms, beaches and swimming pools, some of the best of these are located on Paradise Island.
