Sydney Bass Hill hotels map
Sydney, Bass Hill intro. Packed with recreational facilities and good amenities, Bass Hill, Australia, is a suburb of the bigger city of Bankstown, located 23kms southwest of Sydney. Although the community was originally named for an explorer and doctor who received land here in 1798, it was called Irish Town for decades because of the large number of Irish immigrants which chose to reside here. Today, most of the nearly-33 per cent of residents born outside of Australia come from New Zealand, Lebanon, Vietnam, Italy or China. This suburb is situated south of Bankstown Airport, the second busiest general aviation hub in Australia. Most Bass Hill hotels, along with most local parks, are located close to the busy Hume Highway. The 2000 Summer Olympics track cycling competitions took place at the Dunc Gray Velodrome, which is just one part of the bigger Crest sporting complex. This sporting complex lies south of Carysfield Park and the smaller McLean and Manuka reserves. The suburb's main shopping centre is Bass Hill Plaza, while Walshaw, Middleton and Thurina are some of its smaller parks.
