Banaskantha intro. Banaskantha is one of the 26 districts in India's state of Gujarat. Named for the West Banas River that runs along the valley between the scenic Aravalli Mountains and Mount Abu, this district offers visitors a nice mix of ancient sites and natural scenery. The main attractions in Banaskantha are the Jain-era Ambaji Temple and the Balaram Temple, both important tourist and pilgrimage sites that attract millions of devotees each year. Palanpur is the largest city in the district, offering the best range of traveller amenities as well as the nicest hotels in Banaskantha. Deesa is another big town with a good choice of attractions and services. Many travellers come here to visit Mount Abu, a sacred place dotted with Jain temples and beautiful vistas. The hill station on Mount Abu is a popular holiday spot to escape the heat of the valley below and enjoy long walks in the hills. Nakki Lake is another nice place to visit when touring Mount Abu.
