Fitzroy Island hotels map
Fitzroy Island intro. Stunning little Fitzroy Island lies on the Inner Barrier of the Great Barrier Reef’s central region, set offshore from Queensland’s Golden Coast. Surrounded by a fringing reef, it’s a national park in its own right as well as part of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage site. Fitzroy Island hotels include a small resort with world-class accommodation and friendly, helpful staff. Access to the island is via a short boat trip from Cairns. The island contains ancient rainforests, glorious white coral beaches and great water sports facilities, including equipment for snorkelling and diving, and a certified diving school for the uninitiated. Vibrant corals and teeming marine life await divers, and water-shy guests can take boat trips or explore the rainforest’s diverse bird life, including white sulphur-crested cockatoos. Sunsets here are unbelievably lovely, best seen from the beaches or the resort’s restaurant or beachside bar.
